After-School Enrichment Classes at Willard

Our enrichment class program offers four after-school courses that meet the needs of a variety of Willard students from sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Taught by UC Berkeley volunteers, these courses are designed to supplement day-time classes through skill-building and enrichment activities after school. We currently offer four courses in math and English for Willard students:

  • Math Support: This class is designed to benefit students who need support in grasping math concepts or need a math credit in order to walk at graduation. Classes will give students a new way to think about math in order to help them master the concepts and lessons learned in the regular math class. Students who complete the course earn credit towards graduation and can take it as an alternative to attending summer school.
  • Math Scholars: This class aims to increase the participation of underrepresented groups in Honors Algebra. This class will be taught by UC Berkeley students who will work to prepare 6th and 7th grade students to take the Honors Algebra test in May. The goal is to increase the number of 6th graders who go on to take Algebra in the 7th grade and to increase the number of 7th graders who can take Honors Algebra or Geometry in the 8th grade.

  • English Support This class focuses on motivating students to enjoy the art of the English language while simultaneously improving basic writing, grammar, vocabulary, reading, and spelling skills. Classes will give students a new way to think about English in order to help them master the concepts and lessons learned in the regular English class. Students who complete the course earn credit towards graduation and can take it as an alternative to attending summer school.

  • English Scholars: This class is designed to provide tips on writing for students who excel in English or show expanded interest in the subject. Instruction will focus on improving writing skills, essay crafting, creative writing, and reading comprehension. Students in the class will go above and beyond, learning to think about English in a creative and analytical manner.
Our wonderful teachers offer tutoring skills, promote a positive, friendly and encouraging learning environment, and provide consistent support to students in the form of regular after school classes.

Classes run from October through November and from mid-February through the end of April.
